The Columbus Association of Black Journalists (CABJ), an affiliate of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), is proud to be one of the fastest-growing local chapters in the country.
The Columbus Association of Black Journalists (CABJ) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is dedicated to empowering Black journalists in our community. Through mentorship, professional development, and networking opportunities, we strive to elevate the voices of Black mediaprofessionals.
Our initiatives foster inclusivity, excellence, and representation in journalism, ensuring that the narratives of Black individuals and communities are authentically told and celebrated. Join us in supporting this critical mission.
CABJ has more than 60 active members, including our four dynamic high schoolers known as The Geniuses. We are building a bold, inclusive community rooted in excellence, accountability, storytelling, and service. The chapter also has a Friends of CABJ membership for supporters who don’t meet requirements for a full membership.

We welcomed a powerhouse panel featuring Tracy Anderson, VP of CBS Sports HQ Production; Clark Kellogg, CBS Sports analyst and former NBA player; and Butch Reynolds, two-time Olympic medalist and ESPN documentary subject. The event was inspiring and energetic. We used it as an opportunity to announce that Columbus and CABJ will proudly host the NABJ Region II Conference in spring of 2026! This event will bring hundreds of Black journalists and allies to the city.

Not only did we volunteer at the Ohio Black Expo this year, we also had the privilege of honoring the career of one of our own, Leon Bibb. Bibb, best known for his distinguished career in the Cleveland television market, made history in 1976 when he became the first Black evening news anchor in Ohio following a promotion at WCMH-TV in Columbus.
We used the moment to announce that CABJ has formed a Legends Brunch committee. This team is now planning what promises to be a stellar celebration of excellence and legacy, set to take place next summer.
CABJ continues to grow thanks to the unwavering support of our members, partners, and Friends of CABJ contributors who share in our mission and keep showing up.
